Scalis Staff in Châteauroux Train for Client Interactions with Self-Defense Workshop
Châteauroux, France - Approximately eleven Scalis employees participated in a self-defense workshop on Wednesday, December 3, designed to prepare them for perhaps confrontational situations encountered while assisting tenants. The training, led by Scalis colleague and martial arts instructor Trung Nguyen, focused on both preventative awareness and practical techniques.
The workshop, now in its second year, aims to equip staff who regularly interact with clients with tools to de-escalate and defend against attacks, which, according to Scalis executive assistant Nadine Huleux, “are more often verbal than physical.” Nguyen, experienced in karate, krav maga, and savate stick defense, utilized a dynamic training method, beginning with a seemingly lighthearted exercise involving rolled-up A3 sheets.
To emphasize the gravity of potential threats, Nguyen unexpectedly introduced a training knife, immediately shifting the atmosphere and illustrating the importance of heightened awareness. “Imagine that the people chasing you are holding a knife. You see, immediately, the atmosphere changes,” explained the Scalis social and urban development manager, observing the impact of the demonstration.
The core principle guiding the training, as Nguyen stated, is that “Self-defense is 80% observation and 20% technique.” Scalis views the workshop as a proactive measure to ensure the safety and well-being of its employees while they fulfill their roles within the community.
