BOSTON – Boston Public Schools (BPS) educators have several professional learning opportunities available this December and into the new year, focused on supporting Students with Limited English Proficiency (SLIFE) and strengthening math instruction. These offerings, a collaboration between the Office of Multilingual & Multicultural Learning and The Telescope Network, aim to equip teachers with strategies to improve student outcomes.
SLIFE Educators Day of Learning – January 2026
Mark your calendars for the SLIFE Educators Day of Learning, scheduled for January 16, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.This day-long event will focus on instructional moves,resources,and routines to build academic language,provide access to grade-level content,and support foundational skills for SLIFE learners. BPS educators and coaches will share high-impact planning and teaching strategies. Registration details are available via flyer.
Implementing the Stations Model for SLIFE Classrooms
the Telescope Network and the Office of Multilingual and Multicultural education are offering a professional progress opportunity centered on utilizing stations to support SLIFE students’ academic and social-emotional needs. The program includes an in-person peer observation at Ohrenberger School, 175 W Boundary Rd, Boston, MA 02132, with options for attendance on either October 28th, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM or October 29th, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This will be followed by three virtual sessions on Zoom:
* November 10th, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
* November 17th, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
* November 24th, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Educators interested in collaborating on resources and building out a Math Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) are encouraged to join a new working group. Addressing Knowledge Gaps in Secondary Math
A “Connect & share” session for secondary math and AP STEM teachers will address balancing curriculum requirements with the need to build students’ foundational skills.The session will feature presentations from BPS teachers on best practices.
