Bulls explore Anthony Davis Trade, Prioritize Young Core
CHICAGO, IL – The Chicago Bulls have engaged in internal discussions regarding a potential trade for Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis, according to a report from ESPN’s Jamal Collier. However, the Bulls are firm in their intention to preserve their developing young core – Josh Giddey (23), Coby White (25), Matas Buzelis (21), and rookie noa Essengue (18), along with potential additions through the draft and players like Isaac Okoro (24) – and will not sacrifice those assets to acquire Davis.
The report indicates the Bulls see Davis as a potential solution to their defensive struggles, specifically rim protection and interior defense. Despite this interest, team sources emphasize a reluctance to make a important move unless the team is on the cusp of contention. “I don’t think going out and chasing X megastar is the way to proceed — at least today,” one source told ESPN.
davis, 32, is currently earning $54.1 million this season with a guaranteed $58.5 million salary for the following year. He will also be eligible for a contract extension this summer. His age and injury history, coupled with his substantial salary, present challenges for a bulls organization that rarely operates above the NBA’s luxury tax – having done so only three times in the past 13 years.
Financially, a trade could be constructed around players like Nikola Vucevic, Patrick Williams, Jevon Carter, and a draft pick, but the report suggests such an offer would likely be insufficient for the Dallas Mavericks, given the assets they previously surrendered to acquire davis.
The difficulty of navigating the NBA’s second apron, which imposes strict limitations on team spending, further complicates any potential in-season trade for Davis. While the Bulls have explored the possibility, the report notes that “internal discussions” within front offices are common practice and do not necessarily indicate serious intent. A potential trade is considered more likely during the offseason, though rumors are expected to persist until the trade deadline.
