Angina Crowned Artist of the Year at GAMIQ Awards 2025
Montreal – Angina has been named Artist of the Year at the 2025 GAMIQ Awards, marking a pinnacle achievement for the rising indie rock artist. The announcement came during a ceremony celebrating Quebec’s independent music scene, recognizing outstanding contributions across a diverse range of categories.
The GAMIQ Awards, presented by the Quebec Association of Independent Music, are a crucial barometer of the province’s vibrant musical landscape. This year’s event highlighted not only musical talent but also the essential infrastructure supporting it – from record labels and performance venues to media relations and artist services. Angina’s win underscores a growing momentum for independent artists in Quebec, signaling a healthy and evolving industry.
This year’s awards saw a broad spectrum of winners. Kitty’s Everything is fine took the EP Indie Rock prize, while Sensei H’s The death of the third verse was recognized in the hip-Hop category. The Soul/R’n’B award went to The Brooks for Soon As I Can, and Papillon social club’s Hard sheet earned the Jazz distinction. metal fans celebrated Two Ears’ The arsenic Chapter,and Wild Children’s Before death claimed the Punk title. We Are Wolves were honored in the Post-Punk/Post-Rock category with Nothing, and Virginie B’s Astral 2000 won for Electro.
Further accolades included Germaine’s honest songs in the Trad category, Sandrine Hébert’s We’re leaving with a wrinkle for Country, and a special “I AM WORLDWIDE” award for the collaborative project First Recordings by Lhasa of Sela & Ives Desrosiers. thélonius García’s Night Walk was recognized in Classical Music, and Louise Forestier’s Old Crow earned the Experimental award. There Are Babies’ Tintamarre received the Canada (Outside Quebec) award.
Beyond album and EP recognition, the GAMIQ Awards also celebrated creative excellence in videography. Chou’s self-produced Barré du Couche-Tard won for Self-production/DIY, DVTR’s Olympics was lauded in the Budget category, and Ariane Roy’s Lamb took the prize for Professional Production. zouz’s Days of ashes was awarded for Animation.
The awards also spotlighted key industry players. Slam Disques & Hell For Breakfast were jointly recognized as the Disc Label of the Year, while Quai des brumes was named Performance Hall of the Year. The Night festival earned the Festival award, and The Pair of Headphones received recognition as the leading Podcast/Radio show. Creation of the Pantoum was honored for its community initiatives, Larissa Media Relations for its media work, Spectacles Bonzaï for artist services, and The Knock-Out as the Record Shop of the Year.
