Seville gears Up for Third Annual Search for teh Best Roscón de Reyes
Seville, Spain - November 22, 2024 – Gastromiun and the Seville Chamber of Commerce today announced the launch of the third edition of its contest to identify the city’s finest Three Kings Roscón, a traditional Spanish pastry enjoyed during the Epiphany celebrations. The competition aims to elevate the Roscón de Reyes as a high-quality artisanal product while simultaneously supporting local soup kitchens.
More than 30 workshops from across the province are anticipated to participate, with entries anonymously judged on criteria including texture, aroma, flavor, decoration, and exterior appearance. This year’s contest builds on the success of previous editions, reinforcing a commitment to both culinary excellence and social responsibility. Each participating bakery is required to donate a duplicate roscón for distribution to soup kitchens throughout Seville.
The contest features two distinct categories: ‘Classic,’ focusing solely on the quality of the dough itself, and ‘Creative,’ allowing for innovative fillings and decorative presentations. Registration is open until December 14, with roscones to be delivered to Torre Cruzcampo (Av.del Greco s/n,Seville) by 2:00 p.m. on December 16.
A panel of esteemed judges will preside over the competition, led by Laura Robles and including food critic Alvaro Salinero, Carmelo Moreno from the Cruzcampo Foundation, chef and haute pastry consultant Ricard Martínez, chef and pastry chef Jose Luis Tarín, Patricia Pérez (winner of Best Classic Roscón 2024 - Obrador Passion cakes), and Ángel Puchi (winner of Best Creative Roscón 2024 – Obrador Puchi Bread).
This initiative underscores gastromiun and the Seville Chamber of Commerce’s dedication to promoting the pastry trade, celebrating local gastronomy, and preserving the cherished tradition of the Roscón de Reyes during the Christmas season.
