Pioneer, Ohio – A local community is rallying around an Amish mother forced to deliver her baby two months prematurely after a hit-and-run crash earlier this week. The incident left the mother and her two young children seriously injured, prompting an outpouring of support and fundraising efforts.
The crash occurred when a white Chevrolet Silverado struck a horse-drawn buggy carrying the mother and her children. The grandfather of the children reported his granddaughter sustained a broken elbow requiring pins, while her brother suffered a skull fracture. Both children are now home recovering. The mother was forced to deliver her baby prematurely as a result of the impact. She has been unable to hold the baby.
Neighbors and friends have quickly organized assistance for the family, including help with household chores and animal care. A GoFundMe page has been established to cover mounting medical bills and legal expenses, already raising over $1,000.
“I was pretty upset, concerned about who it could be, and then the news was coming in pretty fast to me from other people in the community,” said Tom Harding, a longtime resident who knows the family. He added that he delivered a Thanksgiving turkey to the family.
Another fundraiser is planned for December 20th, featuring a 50-50 raffle at the State Line Gun Show, located at 18864 County Road 13 in Pioneer, Ohio, on Saturday and Sunday. All proceeds will directly benefit the family.
“Accidents happen, but the fact that it happened this way is definitely impactful on everybody,” stated Tracy Harding, a neighbor.
State troopers located the vehicle involved, a white Chevrolet Silverado with significant front-end damage, and have identified the driver. No charges have been filed as the inquiry continues and evidence is gathered. Fortunately, the horse pulling the buggy was unharmed.
