While teh ED remains open for serious and life-threatening conditions - including suspected heart attack, cardiac arrest, chest pains, suspected stroke, breathlessness, heavy blood loss, or severe injury – residents are urged to explore option healthcare options where appropriate.
Numerous alternatives are available in the area, including:
* 111 Wales: Check symptoms and receive advice for a wide range of conditions via the 111 Wales website.
* GP Support: Contact your GP surgery; if closed,call 111.
* Community Pharmacies: Seek advice and treatment for common ailments, with many offering sore throat tests and treatment for those aged six and over.
* Dental Care: Contact your dentist for dental/gum pain. For unregistered patients or out-of-hours issues, call 111 to locate the nearest emergency dentist.
* Minor Injuries Unit (MIU): The MIU at Neath Port Talbot Hospital treats patients aged one and up, excluding those with suspected heart attack/cardiac arrest, chest pains, stroke, serious illness, or severe injuries.
* 24/7 Mental Health Support: Residents of Swansea and Neath Port Talbot experiencing urgent mental health concerns can call 111 and select option 2 to connect with a team of mental health professionals.
Officials emphasize that 999 should only be called, or the ED visited, in genuine emergencies.
