SAN JOSE, Calif. – Fresno state concluded its regular season with a dominant 41-14 victory over San Jose State Saturday night, fueled by four field goals from Dylan lynch and a stifling defensive performance that included five interceptions. The win secures an 8-4 overall record and a 5-3 mark in Mountain West Conference play for the Bulldogs, who had already clinched a bowl game berth in head coach Matt Entz’s debut season.
The Bulldogs’ victory was a comprehensive team effort, showcasing both offensive consistency and defensive prowess. Lynch proved crucial, successfully converting field goals in each quarter – from 34 and 41 yards in the first half, a 41-yarder in the third, and another in the fourth. The five interceptions, two by Simeon Harris and one each from Al’zillion Hamilton, Ethan Tierney, and Jayden davis, repeatedly thwarted San Jose State’s offensive attempts and set up scoring opportunities for Fresno State.
Fresno State took an early lead with Lynch’s 34-yard field goal in the first quarter, extending it with another Lynch kick and a 2-yard run by Brandon Ramirez in the second. San Jose State briefly responded when Jordan Pollard intercepted E.J. Warner and returned it 58 yards for a touchdown, but warner quickly answered with a 37-yard touchdown pass to Josiah Freeman before halftime, coupled with a successful two-point conversion.
The second half saw Fresno State pull further ahead. Lynch’s third field goal,a 41-yarder,increased the lead to 24-7. While Viliami Teu scored a touchdown for San Jose State late in the game, Fresno State countered with touchdowns from Elijah Gilliam (two rushing touchdowns of 2 and 33 yards) and Lynch’s fourth field goal, solidifying the 41-14 final score.
San Jose State struggled offensively, with three quarterbacks combining for 114 passing yards on 11-of-34 attempts and five interceptions. E.J. Warner completed 15 of 20 passes for 138 yards and one touchdown for Fresno State. The Bulldogs now await their bowl game assignment, while San Jose State finishes the season with a 3-9 record and a 2-6 conference record.
