Trump Officials Meet with Ukraine to Broker Peace Deal

US and Ukrainian negotiators Meet as Trump Proposes Framework for Ending War in Ukraine

KYIV, Ukraine – US and‌ Ukrainian ‍negotiators are engaged in discussions aimed at‌ finding​ a path to end ⁢the ongoing war, as ‍former President Donald Trump has unveiled a plan he says could bring a swift resolution. The⁢ meetings come amid continued⁢ russian attacks on Ukrainian cities,including a recent barrage on Kyiv that killed at least​ three and wounded dozens ⁢more,and ⁤Ukrainian⁤ strikes on Russian ⁤infrastructure.

Trump has tasked advisors, including Tom Witkoff and potentially Jared​ Kushner, with traveling to Moscow this week to discuss the framework with russian President Vladimir‍ Putin. The ‌plan, initially described​ by Trump as a “concept” or “map” to be “fine-tuned,” reportedly includes limitations on the size of Ukraine’s military, ⁤a bar on NATO membership for ‌Ukraine, and‍ a requirement for Ukraine to hold elections within 100 days. While negotiators indicate ‌the framework has evolved, specific alterations remain unclear.

“In the coming days it is feasible to‍ flesh out​ the steps⁣ to determine how to bring the war to a dignified end,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on X, stating his‌ delegation would “swiftly and substantively work out the steps needed to end the war.” He further noted ‍in a Saturday address that the American side was “demonstrating⁣ a constructive approach.”

The diplomatic efforts are⁣ unfolding against a backdrop of‌ escalating attacks. On Saturday and ⁢overnight into Sunday, Russian drone and missile strikes in and⁣ around Kyiv resulted‌ in at⁢ least four deaths and 38 injuries, including four children wounded when a drone struck an apartment building in⁤ Vyshhorod.Zelenskyy reported Sunday that Russia launched 122 strike‍ drones‌ and ballistic missiles against Ukraine, adding that Russians have used nearly 1,400 strike ⁣drones, 1,100 guided aerial bombs and 66 missiles⁢ against Ukraine this week alone. He reiterated the need for⁤ strengthened air defenses​ and ‍continued partner support.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan has urged Ukraine to halt attacks on the Black Sea terminal near Novorossiysk, owned by the Caspian ​Pipeline​ Consortium, after Ukraine claimed‍ responsibility for damaging the facility. ‌The CPC pipeline is crucial for Kazakhstan’s oil ⁣exports, and the Kazakh Foreign Ministry stated the​ attack harmed‍ bilateral relations and​ requested⁣ preventative measures from Ukraine.

Trump’s involvement in proposing a resolution comes as the conflict enters it’s[currenttimeframe‍-[currenttimeframe-[currenttimeframe‍-[currenttimeframe-add ⁢current timeframe here], with the status ⁤of the Donbas region – a key point of contention for Kyiv -​ remaining a central issue in potential negotiations.
