Sebastian Maniscalco says ‘SNL’ Impression Was “All in Love,” Used Interview to pitch Hosting Gig
Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco revealed he took Marcello Hernandez’s recent impression of him on Saturday Night Live as a compliment, describing it as “all in love” during a December 2 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. The exchange also provided maniscalco an prospect to advocate for himself as a potential SNL host.
Barrymore initiated the conversation, telling Maniscalco that she considered a loving, non-mean-spirited impression “one of the world’s great compliments.” She then asked, “Did you take it that way because there was so much love in that?” Maniscalco agreed, adding that he used the moment to subtly pitch himself for a hosting spot. “Yeah, this is absolutely all, all in love, and I have never hosted the show, which I’m here today kinda to… and maybe you could help me out,” he said.
The comedian’s appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show comes as Hernandez’s impression – portraying Maniscalco’s signature mannerisms and observational humor – gained attention following its debut on the December 2 episode of SNL. Barrymore, a six-time SNL host herself, responded positively to Maniscalco’s aspirations, stating, “By the way, you would be so amazing with that show.”
Maniscalco’s newest comedy special, It Ain’t Right, is currently streaming on Hulu. The full interview with Barrymore airs on The Drew Barrymore Show on December 2 (check local listings).
