Gunungkidul dengue Fever cases Predicted to Remain Stable Through Year End
GUNUNGKIDUL, Indonesia - Dengue fever cases in Gunungkidul Regency are expected to remain relatively stable through teh end of the year, according to health officials, despite ongoing risks associated with the rainy season. While acknowledging dengue’s classification as a seasonal disease, authorities report a consistent decline in monthly cases following a peak in January.
Recent data indicates a significant drop from 385 infections recorded in January to 175 in February. From March through October, monthly cases have remained below 100. Ismono, a health official, cautioned the public against complacency, stating, “You must not be careless as this disease is still a threat, especially during the rainy season.”
The Gunungkidul Health Service is actively promoting preventative measures through the Community Health Movement (Germas) and the Mosquito Nest Eradication Movement (PSN). Sidig Hery Sukoco, Head of the Disease Prevention and Control division, emphasized the importance of a Clean and Healthy Lifestyle (PHBS), regular exercise, and nutritious food to bolster immunity. PSN efforts aim to achieve a 95% larvae-free rate through consistent monitoring and elimination of mosquito breeding sites.
“This is important so that prevention of the spread of dengue fever can continue to be suppressed,” Sukoco said. “Prevention efforts are not only the government’s task, but citizens must play an active role so that the results can be maximized.” Residents are encouraged to continue practices like closing water containers, draining standing water, and burying potential mosquito breeding grounds.
