Quebec Aesthetic Clinics Under Scrutiny Amidst Safety Concerns and Calls for regulation
Published: october 26, 2023
Montreal, QC – A growing wave of concern is sweeping through Quebec as reports emerge of potentially dangerous practices within certain aesthetic clinics. Public outcry and mounting pressure from health professionals are fueling demands for stricter regulation of the industry, following revelations of ethical breaches and, in some cases, alleged illegal activity.
The core of the issue lies in a significant lack of oversight, allowing individuals without formal medical training to administer cosmetic injections to the face and body. This practice raises serious questions about patient safety and the potential for adverse health outcomes.
A recent report by the investigative program Enquête detailed alarming failings within the sector, bringing the issue to the forefront of public discussion.
“Even a seemingly simple Botox injection carries the risk of medical complications,” explains Carole Grant, President of the Order of Auxiliary Nurses of Quebec (OIIAQ). “Competent medical personnel, including nursing assistants, must be present to effectively respond to potential emergencies such as infections or allergic reactions.”
The absence of qualified medical support during and after procedures is a key concern highlighted by health officials. The potential for complications, even with minimally invasive treatments, underscores the need for robust safety protocols and qualified practitioners.
