Jeremy Corbyn’s New Party: Name Selection & Conference Updates

by Emma Walker – News Editor

Liverpool, UK – ‌Jeremy Corbyn‘s newly formed political party, currently operating under the temporary name Your Party, is ⁣set to announce its official⁤ name this Sunday following⁤ a vote by ⁤its 50,000 members. The shortlist includes Your Party, Our Party, Popular Alliance, and For The Many. The decision will be revealed at the party’s inaugural conference in Liverpool this‌ weekend.

The party, launched over the summer, has experienced internal conflict as its inception,‍ including disagreements between Corbyn and⁣ Zarah Sultana regarding its launch and financial management. Two MPs, Iqbal⁤ Mohamed and Adnan Hussain, ⁢have already departed the institution citing‍ “persistent⁢ infighting” and power struggles.

More than 2,500 members, selected via a lottery, will attend the conference to⁤ establish the party’s structure, program, and organizational strategy. Key debates will center on leadership structure – a single leader versus a “collective, lay-member leadership model” – and whether to support socialist independents in the 2026 ⁤English local elections.

“Over the last few months I’ve travelled the length and breadth of the country, speaking to⁤ people, and learning about their visions for a member-led party,” Corbyn stated. “I am very excited to⁣ get this party started and begin the work of building a majority for real political change. This is our chance to create a mass, democratic, socialist party that can be a voice for ⁢economic justice and peace.”

Sultana added, “I’m looking forward to the Your Party ‍founding conference, where we’ll⁣ work collectively toward our shared socialist vision. ⁣We’re building a new ⁢kind of party – rooted in and democratically accountable to a mass movement.”

The conference also comes amid reports⁢ of membership cancellations‌ for individuals affiliated with other political groups, such as the Socialist Workers party, despite Sultana ‍receiving support from the Socialist Unity‌ Platform, which includes the Communist party of Great Britain.
