Toronto, ON – Joseph Woll delivered an “unreal” performance, stopping all 37 shots he faced in the third period adn overtime, as the Toronto Maple Leafs completed a 3-2 comeback victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night. The win improved Toronto’s record to 6-0 when tied after two periods.

The Maple Leafs were facing a critical game against a struggling Blue jackets team, and found themselves trailing 2-0 heading into the third. Woll’s stellar goaltending sparked the comeback, allowing Toronto to tie the game and ultimately win in overtime.

“Nagging things like that can affect you over time because it’s constant,” Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube noted, referring to the benefit of time off for injured players. “It’s every day. It’s not getting better. It’s not going away. So,hopefully he’s cleared up there, and he’s 100 per cent.”

Forward Matthew Knies, who recently took 11 days off due to injury, believes the time off allowed his body to heal and that he’ll be able to manage it moving forward. roy also returned to action after 11 days off, and defenceman Brandon Carlo (lower body) was back on the ice for the first time in two weeks.

The game also featured a prosperous coach’s challenge by Berube, wiping an apparent Zach Werenski goal off the board due to a questionable offside call on Kent Johnson. Berube had previously missed a challenge on october 22nd against the Devils and refrained from disputing a controversial call in Saturday’s loss to Montreal.

Despite taking a puck to the face on Saturday, defenseman Jake McCabe played a team-high 25:12 against Columbus. “Honestly, not really that scary. That happens quite a bit,” said mccabe, visibly bruised and stitched. “This one just blew up.Like, my face just blew up right away.”

The Maple Leafs’ victory was the first time as March 2020 that Toronto had been involved in a game scoreless through two periods.
