PHILADELPHIA – A Belgian Sheepdog named Soleil took home the coveted “Best in Show” title at the National Dog Show in Philadelphia on Thursday,November 27th.
The annual competition, broadcast on NBC and streamed on Peacock, showcases dogs from across the country vying for top honors in their respective breeds and ultimately, the overall championship. Soleil’s victory marks a meaningful achievement in the world of competitive dog showing, highlighting the breed’s intelligence, athleticism, and beauty.
“Today, that dog was ‘on.’ Didn’t put its foot down wrong. Didn’t miss a beat,” Best in Show judge Charlie Olvis said in a statement. “She is in drop-dead gorgeous condition.”
Handler Daniel Martin echoed the sentiment, stating, “I knew that this would be a fierce, intense competition. Soleil loves the energy and she feels it. That’s her magic. She’ll do whatever we ask of her. She’s a winner.”
Soleil bested a Miniature Schnauzer,a Shih Tzu,and a Bichon Frise to claim the top prize. The winning dog is owned by Connie Jasinski of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Pat Snow of Sapulpa, Okla., and Nancy Maye of Towanda, Kan. Soleil also previously won in the Herding Group.
The Reserve Best in Show, or second place, was awarded to an American Foxhound named George, handled by Tristen Lawrence of Mechanicsville, Md., who had earlier won the Hound Group.
John O’Hurley and David Frei co-hosted the event,with Mary Carillo providing behind-the-scenes commentary. Last year’s winner was vito, a pug.
