Green Bay, WI – December 3, 2023 – Jordan Love threw for 234 yards and three touchdowns as the Green Bay Packers defeated the Detroit Lions 31-24 on Sunday, securing a crucial victory in the NFC North race. The win improves the Packers’ record to 8-3-1 and sweeps the season series against Detroit.
Love completed 18 of 30 passes, connecting with Christian Watson for a 51-yard touchdown and Dontayvion Wicks twice for scores of 22 and 1 yard respectively. Wicks’ second touchdown came late in the game, effectively sealing the Packers’ win. Green Bay built an early 10-0 lead and maintained control throughout, dominating both the offensive and defensive lines.
The Lions (7-5) struggled to convert on key fourth-down attempts, failing twice – once on the opening drive of the second half and again early in the fourth quarter. Detroit coach Dan Campbell acknowledged his team’s struggles, stating, ”We’ve dug ourselves a hole.” Jameson Williams, despite a career-high 144 receiving yards on seven catches, dropped a crucial pass on fourth down in the fourth quarter.
Packers’ newly acquired defensive end, Chase Parsons, recorded 2 1/2 sacks, bringing his season total to over 12 for the fifth consecutive year.
Despite a strong performance from Lions quarterback Jared Goff (20-of-26 for 256 yards and two touchdowns),Detroit couldn’t overcome the Packers’ consistent pressure and timely plays.
The Packers now trail only the Chicago Bears (8-3), who play today at philadelphia, in the NFC North standings. the lions will return home to face the Dallas Cowboys next Thursday, while the Packers will host the Bears on December 7.
The game also saw injuries to key players: Packers defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt was carted off the field with an ankle injury, described by coach Matt LaFleur as “not good,” and Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown left the game in the first quarter with an ankle injury,perhaps sidelining him for a week or two.
