Bruce Willis‘ Wife Emma Heming Willis Details Family’s holiday Adjustments Amid Husband’s Dementia Battle
Emma Heming Willis, wife of actor Bruce Willis, recently shared insights into how their family has navigated the holidays while he continues to live with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). The update came during an Instagram question-and-answer session with followers, offering a glimpse into the family’s evolving dynamics and their approach to finding joy amidst challenging circumstances.
The family’s experience underscores the profound impact of FTD, a progressive brain disorder affecting personality, behavior, and language. Diagnosed with the condition in early 2023, Willis retired from acting. His diagnosis brought a wave of support from colleagues and fans, but also highlighted the difficulties faced by families coping with neurodegenerative diseases. Heming Willis’ comments provide a candid look at the realities of living with FTD, emphasizing the importance of connection and finding moments of gratitude.
“People always ask me this question,” Rumer Willis’ sister-in-law shared,”And I think it’s kind of a hard one to answer, becuase the truth is that anybody with FTD is not doing great. But he’s doing OK in terms of somebody who’s dealing with frontotemporal dementia, you know what I mean?”
Heming Willis also spoke about the emotional resonance of physical touch, even as her husband’s condition progresses. ”I’m so grateful that when I go over there [to his separate home for dementia care] and give him a hug, whether he recognizes me or not, that he can feel the love I’ve given him and I can feel it back,” she added. The family made the decision to move Willis to a dedicated care facility to provide him with specialized attention.
