Liverpool manager Arne Slot is facing increased scrutiny following a disappointing run of form, culminating in a loss to PSV Eindhoven that some are calling the low point of the season.the recent 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest further intensified the pressure on the Dutchman, raising questions about his future at the club.
Slot took over from Jurgen Klopp in 2024,instantly exceeding expectations by leading Liverpool to the league title in his first season, finishing 10 points ahead of Arsenal. despite this success, recent results have prompted debate about whether he is the right person to turn the team’s fortunes around.
Josh Sexton of the Anfield Wrap fan group told BBC Sport, ”Liverpool seem to keep finding ways to hit new lows under Arne Slot, and of course, that is leading to questions around the manager’s future.” Sexton added, ”He will accept that as part of the pressure that comes with such a reputable job, but now the biggest question has become ’is he the right man to actually rescue a team from such a slump?'”
The club endured a turbulent summer transfer window, marked by the departures of key players like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz, alongside several new signings and the tragic death of Portugal attacker Diogo Jota. Sexton expressed willingness to give Slot time to address the issues, stating, “I do not mind giving him the chance to have a go [at fixing this].” He believes slot’s previous achievements warrant continued faith from the club’s leadership, adding, “given what he achieved in such a short space of time and how that had this team so far ahead of their timeline, his bosses should keep the faith that he can get back on that road – back to where we belong.”
While acknowledging the possibility of a managerial change, Sexton admitted he would be “gutted” to see Slot depart after delivering a league title. However, he would also “understand and try to trust the decision that had been taken.” He also voiced concerns about those making any potential decision, saying, “I would hold reservations about the people sacking him being the same ones involved in the decision-making that led to such an imbalanced squad as it is at present.” Ultimately, Sexton concluded, “But if I did not trust the process, there would be no point in any of this, really, would there?”
