Monaco‘s Krépin Diatta has been removed from the club’s Champions League squad for a second time this season, creating a challenge for new head coach Sébastien Pocognoli.
The change stems from UEFA regulations allowing teams to replace injured players on their Champions League lists. In September, Diatta initially replaced Denis Zakaria, who was expected to be sidelined for at least 60 days. With Zakaria now recovered after a two-month absence, he has reclaimed his spot, leading to Diatta’s exclusion.
This presents a setback for Pocognoli, who has emphasized Diatta’s importance to his plans. “Krépin is a very important player for me, for my system. He’s one of the guys who’s definitely been performing at a very high level since I arrived, but that’s how it is. The decision was made before I got here,so we adapt,” Pocognoli stated. The coach clarified he was not involved in the original squad list compilation.
