Louis Jourdain Reflects on Brotherly Rivalry and UFC Victory

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

LAS VEGAS – UFC fighter Louis ⁣Jourdain is poised to compete alongside his brother,⁤ Charles⁢ Jourdain, at UFC 323 in Las Vegas, a milestone sixteen years in teh making. The brothers’ journey to this point has been marked by both ⁣rivalry and a growing understanding⁣ of the power of collaboration.

The Jourdains, just 15 months and‌ 15 days apart in ⁢age, initially struggled to ‍train effectively together due to competitive friction.‍ “When we were sparring, we couldn’t spar ‍together because we woudl just throw down. As soon as I threw a little‌ bit hard, he would throw harder, and it would end up in a war,” Louis explained. This dynamic stemmed, in part, from a natural sibling rivalry and‍ the public’s tendency ‌to compare Louis ⁢to his older brother’s success.

“I think people mistook Charles’ success…they always thought‌ that‌ I was in his shadow,” Louis‍ said, echoing sentiments shared after his ‍recent win. “It’s ⁣because we’re brothers that everybody needs to compare me to him, but it definitely ‍feels good to prove to the big⁣ brother that I also can‌ do it. I always had a chip on⁢ my shoulder to do ⁤the same ⁤thing as him, so it feels good now.”

However, the ⁣brothers eventually realized their potential was ⁤greater as a team. “We learned we’re more here to help each other then to compare (ourselves against one another),” Louis‌ stated. “as soon ‌as we learned that, we started training more together, ⁢and we became better because of that. It’s always better as a team.” Despite the established sibling dynamic- “First ⁣of all, I can never tell‌ Charles what to do since‍ he’s my ⁣big‍ brother; he needs to tell me⁢ what to do”-the Jourdains have found a formula for mutual improvement and are now ‌ready to share the Octagon’s ‍spotlight.
