Drensteinfurt couple Celebrates 65 Years of Marriage, Shares Keys to Lasting Partnership
Drensteinfurt residents Erna and Wilhelm Trojahn marked 65 years of marriage today, surrounded by 33 family members and friends. Their enduring union offers a rare glimpse into a lifetime shared, punctuated by community involvement and a steadfast commitment to mutual support.
The Trojahns’ story isn’t simply a personal milestone; it reflects a generation’s values of loyalty, compromise, and active participation in local life. Wilhelm trojahn, 89, fondly recalls initiating a 2008 referendum for an ash scattering field in the Drensteinfurt cemetery and advocating for the roundabout at Netto.Erna Trojahn, described as a “restless spirit,” previously held a leadership position within a local party, remaining dedicated to its principles even after relinquishing the chairmanship. Their longevity as a couple, and their contributions to Drensteinfurt, provide a heartwarming counterpoint to shifting societal norms and offer a model for enduring relationships.
the couple’s life together has been filled with shared experiences, including family vacations traveling by caravan to destinations like southern France, Corsica, and Yugoslavia.
When asked about the secret to their long marriage,Wilhelm Trojahn offered a pragmatic perspective: “Don’t always say yes – but you have to support each other,there’s no other way.” He added with a smile,”My wife has always taken good care of me. She has many talents. I am satisfied with my life.” Erna Trojahn emphasized the importance of the freedom her husband consistently afforded her.
The celebration coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Fidele Merscher club, which unites members from two generations and has provided opportunities for both competition and camaraderie.
