Frankfurt/Main – Dominik Kohr of FSV Mainz 05 has been suspended for three games and fined €15,000 by the German Football association (DFB) following a red card received during a 1-1 draw against TSG Hoffenheim. the decision was announced by the DFB.
Kohr’s dismissal marked the ninth sending-off of his Bundesliga career, surpassing the previous record of eight held jointly by Jens Nowotny and Luiz Gustavo. The foul occurred in the final phase of the match against Hoffenheim, targeting Max Moerstedt, and prompted a review by referee Sascha Stegemann.
TSG Hoffenheim coach Christian Ilzer reported that moerstedt sustained only a bruise from the challenge, stating he hadn’t witnessed such a forceful foul in some time. Kohr afterward apologized via Instagram, expressing relief that Moerstedt was able to continue playing and acknowledging the severity of his action after reviewing television footage.
The suspension leaves Mainz without a key player as they continue their fight against relegation. The 31-year-old Kohr was previously sent off against FC Augsburg in September.
