Farage Faces Calls to Explain Alleged Antisemitic Conspiracy Theories
London - Nigel Farage is facing mounting pressure from opposition parties to address reported remarks made during a recent appearance on US media, where he allegedly voiced conspiracy theories with antisemitic undertones. Labour, Liberal democrat, and Green party leaders have condemned the comments and are demanding explanations.
Anna Turley, chair of the Labour party, stated that Farage’s “rap sheet of disturbing remarks grows by the day,” exposing a “type of unpatriotic, dark and divisive politics Reform would unleash on this country.”
Liberal Democrat MP Josh Babarinde described the remarks as “profoundly disturbing, but not surprising,” adding they “paint a picture of a man who has continued to peddle conspiracy theories and tropes, and who has gone on to build a political career by spreading division and hate.” Babarinde called on Farage to explain the comments and clarify whether he still supports the alleged conspiracy theories.
Green party leader Zack Polanski emphasized that Farage should be judged not only on alleged childhood statements but also on his public statements as an adult. Polanski accused Farage of consistently “echo[ing] conspiracy theories through the language of the far right and antisemites,” deeming it “deplorable” and questioning whether Farage would ever take obligation for his words.
A Reform UK spokesperson directed inquiries to a representative for Farage, who has been contacted for comment.
The controversy comes as Farage continues to play a prominent role in the UK political landscape, campaigning with Reform UK ahead of upcoming elections. His previous association with Brexit and history of populist rhetoric have consistently drawn scrutiny.
