“Demon Slayer: Infinity Edge” Claims Historic Victory: First Animation to Top South Korea‘s Annual Box Office
SEOUL, November 22, 2025 – The South Korean film industry is witnessing a historic shift as “Demon Slayer Theatrical Version: infinity Edge” has officially secured the number one spot at the 2025 box office, surpassing this year’s previous leader, the Korean film “Zombie Daughter,” with a cumulative audience of 5.638 million viewers. This marks the first time an animated film has achieved the top ranking in South Korea’s annual box office records.
Distributed by Animax Broadcasting Korea, “Demon Slayer: Infinity Edge“ rapidly gained traction upon its August 22nd release, exceeding 1 million viewers within two days and 3 million within ten. It also broke records for Japanese animation, surpassing the 5.589 million viewers achieved by “Suzume’s Lockdown” earlier this month.
“The excellent drawing quality and overwhelming action scale that continued from the beginning of the release led to the ‘Nth degree viewing’ craze in various formats, driving the box office success,” Animax Broadcasting Korea stated to Yonhap News.
The film’s success is further highlighted by its performance in premium formats, with approximately 19% of viewings occurring in 4DX, IMAX, and Dolby Cinema theaters. Notably, “Demon Slayer: Infinity Edge” became the highest-grossing 4DX film of the year globally, generating over $2,930 in revenue.
Based on the popular manga and anime series, ”demon Slayer: Infinity edge” is the first installment of a planned trilogy concluding the series’ narrative. The film centers on the battle between demon slayers and Muzan Kibutsuji, leader of the blood Demons, within the “Infinite Castle.” Its detailed character growth and striking animation have fueled repeat viewings among dedicated fans.
While “Frozen 2” previously held a box office record for foreign animation with 13.369 million viewers in 2019, it ultimately ranked third overall for the year, behind “Extreme Job” and “Avengers: Endgame.” “Demon Slayer: Infinity Edge’s” achievement signals a potential new era for animation’s prominence in the South Korean film market.
