Boalemo, Gorontalo – As the rainy season begins, Helmi Rasid, Chairman of Commission One of the Boalemo Regency DPRD, is urging the local Health Department (Dikes) and the Regional disaster Management Agency (BPBD) too proactively implement dengue fever (DHF) prevention measures. Rasid stressed the importance of immediate community outreach and education.
“With the onset of the rainy season, I’m calling on the Health Department and BPBD to promptly engage with the public to begin early dengue fever prevention efforts,” rasid stated.
Rasid emphasized the need for swift socialization of preventative steps, noting recent rainfall in Gorontalo, notably within Boalemo Regency. He cautioned against a reactive approach, stating, “We don’t want a situation where agencies only respond *after* cases of dengue fever emerge. Socialization must extend from the sub-district level down to the village level, ensuring broad community involvement.”
The DPRD Chairman also appealed directly to residents to eliminate potential mosquito breeding grounds. “I hope the public will proactively anticipate dengue fever by draining standing water and avoiding water storage, as these become breeding sites for dengue-carrying larvae,” he said.
Beyond dengue prevention, Rasid directed the Health Department and BPBD to maintain heightened vigilance and identify areas susceptible to other rain-related disasters. “This rainy season requires attention not only to dengue fever, but also to potential floods and landslides. Mapping potential disaster zones by the Health Department and BPBD is crucial,” Rasid concluded.
