Genoa, Italy – A cosmetic surgeon in Genoa is under investigation for alleged negligent injury following a 2022 operation that left a 68-year-old woman with chronic pain, bleeding, and pus leakage for years afterward. The prosecutor’s office launched the inquiry after the woman filed a complaint detailing complications from a double breast reduction and abdominoplasty.
The woman underwent the surgery at a clinic in the Foce area, reportedly after a friend’s recommendation. She alleges the doctor assured her of a successful outcome and requested €10,000 in cash for the procedure. Post-operatively, the patient claims she was not provided with drainage, a standard medical practice following invasive surgery.
Despite experiencing severe pain, the woman states the doctor dismissed her concerns as normal post-operative discomfort. However, her condition worsened, leading to persistent bleeding and evident scarring. A subsequent medical examination revealed the surgeon had a history of similar cases and that the operation had put her life at risk.
The woman’s lawyer contacted the surgeon requesting details of his professional liability insurance to cover damages, but received no response. The complaint to the prosecutor’s office seeks not only redress for the woman’s injuries but also a review of the clinic’s medical and insurance authorizations. Reports indicate the doctor has previously faced scrutiny and a suspension order from the Medical Association related to similar allegations.
