Kevin Spacey Claims He Is living As A Lounge Singer In Cyprus, Facing Financial Hardship
Paphos, Cyprus - Kevin Spacey, the two-time Oscar winner once lauded as one of Hollywood’s most talented actors, has revealed he is currently living in Cyprus and working as a lounge singer to make ends meet.In a recent interview with The Times, Spacey described a drastically altered life following numerous allegations of sexual misconduct and subsequent legal battles.
The revelation comes as Spacey attempts a career resurgence after being acquitted of sexual assault charges in the U.K. in 2022 and found not liable in a U.S. civil case brought by Anthony Rapp. However, a new U.K. civil suit filed by an anonymous complainant alleging sexual assault is scheduled to go to trial this year, and lingering accusations continue to impact his professional prospects. Spacey’s situation underscores the lasting consequences of the #MeToo movement and the challenges faced by figures accused of misconduct as they attempt to rebuild their lives and careers. His current circumstances raise questions about the financial toll of legal battles and reputational damage, and whether a full return to prominence is absolutely possible.
Spacey told The Times he lost “pretty much everything” and is now reliant on friends for financial support. He detailed performing nightly at a bar in Paphos, singing songs by artists like Tom Jones and Frank Sinatra. “I don’t know what I’m going to do,” he said. “I’m just trying to get by.”
Most recently, Spacey wrapped production in the U.K. on an under-the-radar sci-fi thriller called the Tenth Planet. He appeared at the Venice and Cannes film festivals earlier this year, where he was honored and invoked the name of Dalton Trumbo, the screenwriter blacklisted during the McCarthy era,in comments referencing his own career challenges. Spacey has been vocal about eyeing a comeback.
Spacey was acquitted of the sexual assault of four men in the U.K. two years ago, and was found not liable in a U.S. civil case brought by actor Anthony Rapp, who alleged Spacey molested him when he was 14. A spate of men alleged similar abuse by the actor during his time working in the U.K. theater scene and on House Of Cards.
The American Beauty star is now facing a U.K. suit from an anonymous complainant, who alleged sexual assault; news of that civil case, which will go to trial this year, came shortly after the airing of a 2024 documentary about Spacey on Channel 4 and Examination Discovery, which unearthed more allegations of wrongdoing, including from actor Ruari Cannon. After Guy Pearce noted earlier this year he was “made to feel uncomfortable” by Spacey on the set of 1997’s L.A. Confidential, the latter responded by telling the Oscar-nominated actor of The Brutalist to ”grow up.”
Spacey has said in the past that he may have behaved inappropriately during his career, but denies that he behaved illegally. Brian Cox, Liam Neeson and Sharon Stone have publicly defended the veteran actor.
