Milan,Italy – Ornella Vanoni,a celebrated figure in Italian music renowned for her emotive interpretations and distinctive vocal style,has died at the age of 91. The singer’s passing marks the end of an era for Italian popular music, leaving behind a vast catalog of songs and a legacy of artistic integrity.
Vanoni’s career spanned decades, establishing her as a cornerstone of the Italian music scene. Just last June, her contributions too arts and culture were formally recognized with an honorary degree in Music, Culture, Media, and Performance from the State University of Milan. The ceremony, led by Rector marina Brambilla in her first bestowal of the honor, celebrated Vanoni’s ability to offer “a lucid and profoundly human look at our time” through her art.
During the event, held before a full auditorium, the 91-year-old Vanoni received the academic certificate in full regalia – a black cloak, blue band, and traditional touch to the head. Visibly moved by the recognition, she shared reflections on her life and career, culminating in the prestigious academic acknowledgement. “I was a slob, who knows how proud my parents would be of this degree today,” Vanoni remarked to the audience, a testament to her humble beginnings and remarkable journey.
