Lake Las Vegas Residents Successfully Oppose 24-Hour Marketplace Progress

LAS⁤ VEGAS (FOX5) – Plans for a‌ 24-hour Emerald ⁤Marketplace development at the intersection of Galleria Drive and Lake Las Vegas Parkway have been withdrawn ‍following notable ‍resident opposition. The proposed project, which included an upscale market, ⁢a restaurant, a‌ gas station, and electric vehicle charging stations, was slated for consideration by the Henderson City Council ‌on December 2nd.

Approximately 100 Lake Las Vegas residents voiced their concerns at a recent community meeting, with nearly unanimous disapproval of the project. residents cited potential⁢ disruptions to the community’s peaceful surroundings and fears of increased crime as primary reasons for their opposition.

“Vegas is 24/7, hustle and bustle.⁢ We all moved ⁢out to Lake ‍Las Vegas to get away ⁣from that,” explained resident Kim sherman. “The crime in ⁣Lake Las Vegas is low, specifically because we don’t have anything running 24 hours a day.”

Concerns ⁣also extended to potential impacts on property values, as expressed by resident Jason Porter.

A key point ‌of contention centered ⁤on the project’s proximity to the Las Vegas Wash, a waterway that flows into Lake Las ⁤vegas and ultimately Lake Mead.Residents worried about potential environmental contamination from the gas station. ‍Jim avery,‍ a Lake Las⁤ Vegas resident, highlighted the issue, stating, “When everybody puts gas in their car, there’s always drops that fall… and just the rains we saw here in the last ⁤couple of‌ days… would be washing everything that accumulates ‍in their parking‌ lot right into this wash ‌a couple of hundred feet away, which will end up in our lake.”

Following the heated ⁢community meeting, ⁢Henderson Mayor⁤ Michelle Romero and City Councilman Jim Seebock responded to resident concerns by contacting the‌ developer. The developer subsequently agreed ⁤to withdraw the request.‍

The City of Henderson confirmed ‌the withdrawal request will be formally presented ⁤at the‌ next council meeting for ⁤acceptance, despite the project having previously been approved by the Henderson Planning ‍Commission.
