Media Entrepreneur Weimer Faces Scrutiny Over Continued Stake in Former Company
Berlin - Minister of State Dr. Wolfram Weimer is confronting a growing wave of criticism regarding his financial ties to Weimer Media Group, despite assurances he severed management responsibilities upon taking office. Concerns are mounting that his continued ownership stake grants him undue influence as a key media policymaker.
Weimer acknowledged a campaign against him earlier this week in Die Welt. The controversy centers on his remaining 50 percent share in the media group, which was not disclosed in a parliamentary response from the federal government to Alliance90/The Greens on August 4, 2025.The Greens initially raised questions about Weimer’s potential conflicts of interest during the summer, specifically concerning the Ludwig Erhard summit.
The government’s response stated that Weimer resigned from the management of Weimer Media Group on his first day in office. However, it omitted any mention of his continuing ownership of half the company. Critics argue this omission raises questions about transparency and the potential for conflicts of interest as Weimer shapes media policy.
