dr. Claudio Sorino Leads Innovation in Cardiorespiratory Rehabilitation at Sant’Antonio Abate Hospital

Cantù, Italy – Dr. Claudio Sorino, a renowned pulmonologist with extensive clinical and research experience, joined the Sant’Antonio Abate hospital in Cantù last August to lead and enhance its Cardiorespiratory Rehabilitation program. Recently appointed secretary of the Italian Society of Respiratory Medicine for the Geriatric Age (SIMREG), and nationally qualified as a second-level university professor, Dr. Sorino brings expertise honed at the Universities of Palermo and Arizona, and through collaborations with various Italian universities.

Dr. Sorino emphasizes the hospital’s strong connection to the community and is focused on establishing the Cardiorespiratory Rehabilitation department as a center of excellence. “My goal is to consolidate its role as a vital healthcare pillar for the territory, offering citizens the most advanced and qualified care for respiratory health,” he states.

Building on fifteen years of experience establishing and coordinating a leading severe asthma clinic at Sant’Anna hospital (recognized by Severe Asthma Network Italy – HEALTHY), Dr. Sorino is expanding this expertise to Cantù, continuing collaboration with Dr. Sergio Agati and the Pneumology department.

he highlights the importance of rehabilitation for chronic respiratory patients, stating, “Severe asthma and chronic respiratory diseases present meaningful challenges, but also offer new therapeutic opportunities, like biological drugs. Rehabilitation is crucial for maximizing quality of life through a multidisciplinary and personalized approach.”

The Cantù facility provides comprehensive care, including intensive outpatient services, and serves as a regional center for sleep-related breathing disorders (like obstructive apnoea) and ALS, working closely with Neurology and Digestive Endoscopy.A new clinic dedicated to patients with severe COPD has also been launched.

The team has recently been strengthened with the addition of Dr. Agata Buscemi, a specialist from the Milan Polyclinic, alongside experienced professionals Dr. Tiziana Cappelletti, Dr.Francesca Frassanito, Dr. Federico Giussani, Dr. Giacomo Concas, Dr. eligio Cartella,and Dr. Chiara Moras.
