The film, directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, reimagines the story of the witches of Oz. Its success is crucial for Universal, representing a major investment in a beloved property. Gold Derby’s latest predictions place “Wicked: For Good” well ahead of other new releases, including “Now you See me: Now You Don’t” ($45M), “Predator: Badlands” ($25M), and “The running Man” ($20M). “Sisu: Road to Revenge” is predicted to round out the top five with $15M.
Recent releases garnering critical acclaim include Rental Family, directed by Hikari and distributed by Searchlight pictures, which currently holds a 90 percent “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic score of 63.Sony Pictures Releasing’s Sisu: Road to Revenge, directed by Jalmari Helander, also boasts a 94 percent Rotten Tomatoes score and a 76 percent Metacritic score. However, neither film is expected to compete with the projected opening of ”Wicked: For Good.”
