Electric Vehicle Production to Launch in Bulgaria with North Macedonian Investment
Sofia, Bulgaria – November 21, 2025 – Bulgaria is poised to become a new hub for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing following a significant investment from North Macedonian company, NEV Automotive. The firm plans to establish a production facility near Ruse, Bulgaria, with initial output focused on a compact electric city car.
The project, representing an investment of over €50 million, aims to capitalize on Bulgaria’s strategic location within the European union and its growing automotive workforce. NEV automotive intends to produce approximately 5,000 vehicles annually in the first phase, scaling up production based on market demand. This venture marks a pivotal moment for Bulgaria’s automotive sector, diversifying its industrial base and creating new employment opportunities. The cars will be sold under the “E-Volta” brand.
NEV Automotive’s founder, Viktor Nechev, stated the company selected Bulgaria due to favorable business conditions and access to skilled labor. “We believe Bulgaria offers the ideal environment for establishing a competitive EV manufacturing base,” Nechev said. The facility will initially focus on assembly, with plans to integrate more complex manufacturing processes, including battery pack assembly, in subsequent phases.
The first E-Volta vehicles are expected to roll off the production line in the second half of 2026. The compact EV is designed for urban environments, offering a range of up to 250 kilometers on a single charge.NEV Automotive is currently finalizing distribution agreements with partners across Europe.
