Charli XCX to Star as Herself in Upcoming Brat Film, “The Moment”
LOS ANGELES, CA - November 21, 2024 – Pop star Charli XCX will portray a fictionalized version of herself in ”The Moment,” an upcoming film centered around the life and career of Brat, the controversial and influential music executive. A teaser for the project released today reveals XCX’s involvement and hints at a dramatic exploration of Brat’s legacy.
“The Moment,” directed by Emerald Fennell, is slated for cinematic release on January 30, 2025. The film promises a deep dive into Brat’s impact on the music industry, and XCX’s casting suggests a meta-narrative approach, potentially examining the complexities of fame and artistic identity thru the lens of a contemporary artist reflecting on a pioneering figure. This project arrives amid renewed interest in Brat’s career and a broader cultural conversation about the power dynamics within the music business.
Beyond her acting debut, Charli XCX has also composed the soundtrack for Fennell’s adaptation of Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights, featuring Australian actors Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie. She has already unveiled two singles from the project, “Chains of Love” and “House,” the latter incorporating a spoken-word segment and viola performance by Velvet Underground’s John Cale.
Charli XCX, born Charlotte Emma Aitchison in 1992, rose to prominence with hits like ”Boom clap” and has consistently pushed boundaries with her experimental pop sound. Her inclusion in “The Moment” signals a unique intersection of music, film, and cultural commentary, drawing attention to Brat’s enduring influence and the evolving landscape of the entertainment industry.
