Canal+ Secures Exclusive European Football Broadcast rights Through 2031
PARIS – Canal+ has extended its exclusive broadcasting rights for all UEFA club competitions, including the coveted Champions league, through the 2030-2031 season. The renewal solidifies canal+’s position as a premier European football broadcaster as it navigates a changing sports media landscape, particularly following the loss of rights to France’s Ligue 1 beginning with the 2024-2025 season.
The agreement ensures Canal+ retains its flagship football offering, a crucial asset as competition intensifies from digital giants like Amazon and Apple entering the sports streaming market. This deal comes as UEFA explores options beyond conventional broadcasters, evidenced by Amazon Prime’s recent €17 billion, eleven-year agreement with the NBA and Apple’s partnership with the MLS. “We are vrey proud to renew our partnership with UEFA until 2031, consolidate our status as the world’s leading broadcaster of European football competitions,” stated Maxime Saada, Chairman of the Canal+ Group, in a press release.
UEFA has yet to publicly comment on the terms of the call for tenders that led to this agreement.
