Vietnam Donates Solar Parks too Boost Cuba‘s Renewable Energy Capacity
Mayabeque, Cuba – A notable infusion of renewable energy is headed for Cuba’s power grid wiht the arrival of a donation from the Vietnamese government: four photovoltaic solar parks slated for construction in the province of Mayabeque. The project, announced by the Mayabeque electric Company, aims to bolster the nation’s energy matrix and improve service stability.
the new facilities – Vista Alegre, el Jobo, El Fénix, and El Comino – will collectively add 80 megawatts (MW) of power to the electrical system. An additional 10 MW of cumulative capacity will be achieved through the integration of modern energy storage systems, designed to address peak demand and compensate for fluctuations in solar production. This initiative underscores Cuba’s commitment to diversifying its energy sources and reducing reliance on traditional fossil fuels.
Currently, land readiness is underway at the designated sites, marking the initial phase of construction before the installation of structures and photovoltaic panels. Authorities in Mayabeque’s energy sector emphasize the project’s importance as a pivotal step in expanding renewable energy resources across the province and the country as a whole. The donation represents a strengthening of ties between Cuba and Vietnam, and a tangible contribution to Cuba’s long-term energy security.
