Carinthia anticipates a surge in online spending this Cyber Week, with projections estimating €30 million in expenditures – averaging €215 per resident – as three in ten Carinthians plan to shop online.
The annual Cyber Week discount period begins today, fueling an expected €30 million in online purchases across Carinthia. This represents an average expenditure of €215 per person, according to the Carinthian Chamber of Commerce.
Marketplaces Offer Broad Reach for Local Businesses
Over 100 Carinthian companies currently utilize large online marketplaces like Amazon to reach customers, leveraging the platforms’ extensive audience.”The big advantage is the huge reach. You have a more or less secured sale. Customers simply buy via the marketplace where you can sell your products,” explains markus miklautsch, chairman of the state committee for mail order, internet and general trade in the Carinthian Chamber of commerce.
However, participation in these sales events presents a complex decision for businesses.Raimund Haberl, chairman of the trade division of the Carinthian Chamber of Commerce, cautions: “It’s a double-edged sword, especially in the period before Christmas, when gifts are bought anyway,to only sell them at a large discount. You have to think carefully about whether you want to take part or not.”
Consumers Can Directly Support Regional retailers Online
While large retailers often drive participation in Cyber Week, Haberl notes that smaller businesses feel compelled to offer promotions to remain competitive: ”Everyone can come up with some kind of campaign.” Consumers seeking to support local Carinthian businesses online can utilize region filters on major marketplaces and increase visibility through social media engagement – subscribing to and rating regional companies.
