Paul George Returns to Action, 76ers Hold Off clippers in Close Contest
Philadelphia, PA – Paul George made his season debut Monday night, contributing in a 121-119 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, though he admitted to feeling “rusty” in his return. After nearly a year sidelined due to a right knee injury, George scored seven points, making his first shot from the floor.
“Great, man,” George said with a smile. “I watched it and there were so many emotions inside. There was zero emotions outside… honestly. I was just trying to focus on just the game, staying locked in and engaged, but it felt great to make the first shot.”
George’s only othre field goal was a short runner in the lane over Clippers center Ivica Zubac. He noted that any increase in minutes will be persistent in consultation with the team’s medical staff and based on how his body responds.
The 76ers overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit, taking a 110-106 led with 1:08 remaining. However, two turnovers by Tyrese Maxey in the final 20 seconds nearly allowed the Clippers to steal the win. harden believed he was fouled on his first 3-point attempt. “I thought I got fouled,” he said. ”But then I had another prospect, to.” He added that a 76ers defensive adjustment to a box-and-one disrupted his rhythm.
Crew chief Curtis Blair explained to a pool reporter that Quentin Grimes legally contested Harden’s first 3-point shot, leading to the no-call.
