Lake Shelbyville to Host 35th Annual Deer Hunt for People with Disabilities
SHELBYVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) – Lake Shelbyville will welcome hunters for the 35th Annual Deer Hunt for People with Disabilities beginning this week. The event, a collaboration between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Wolf Creek State Park, provides an opportunity for individuals with disabilities to participate in a firearm deer hunt.
The hunt will take place November 21-23, coinciding with the first firearm deer season, within designated recreation areas of Lake Shelbyville normally closed for the season.
For safety during the event, several recreation areas will be temporarily closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic starting at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 20, and reopening at 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 23. These closures include Lone Point and Lithia Springs Campgrounds, as well as all of Wilborn Creek, Whitley creek, Coon Creek, and Opossum Creek Recreation areas.Boat ramps within Wilborn Creek, Coon Creek, and Opossum Creek will also be closed.
Lake users can still access the water via boat ramps at Dam West, Lone Point, Lithia Springs, Wolf Creek, and eagle Creek State Parks, and also all primitive ramps.
