Falu, Sweden – Region Dalarna is hosting Nobel Week events from December 8-12, showcasing the region’s ongoing research and innovation in healthcare. The initiative aims to connect residents and employees with the advancements happening locally and highlight the impact of new knowlege on people’s lives.
Region Dalarna currently supports nearly 200 research studies, conducted by over 100 research-educated employees, who have collectively contributed to over 1,200 scientific articles as 2020.
“With Nobel Week, we want to invite both employees and residents to discover the research and innovation that develops the region and care in Dalarna every day,” said Björn Äng, Research director of Region Dalarna. “We want to show how new knowledge and new ideas actually make a difference to people’s lives.”
The program includes a diverse range of presentations and talks. On December 10th, research nurses at Falu Hospital will host an open house with presentations, conversations, and coffee, offering insights into combining nursing with research. Maria Hjorth, a nurse at Falu Hospital, stated, “It really feels good to be able to spread what we nurses work with to the public and colleagues. Both to be told about our research results and about what it’s like to combine work as a researcher and a nurse.”
Other topics covered throughout the week include the role of hospital libraries in accessing research, the impact of evening snacks on sleep, the scientific evaluation of hospital clowning and digital apps for care, the health effects of coffee, new obesity medications, the link between infectious diseases and climate change, and public acceptance of new technologies.
