Ethan Ewing Prepares for 2026 Season with Dominant Bells Beach Performance
BELLS BEACH, AUSTRALIA – Ethan Ewing is making a statement during the Championship Tour’s six-month off-season, delivering a stunning performance at Bells Beach as he prepares for a 2026 season heavily weighted towards right-hand point breaks. The Australian surfer, coming off a 2025 CT year where he didn’t reach a single final but narrowly missed a top-five ranking, appears poised for a strong comeback.
The WSL recently announced the 2026 CT schedule, featuring five right-hand point breaks in the first six events: Bells Beach, Margaret River, Snapper Rocks, Punta Roca, and Jeffrey’s Bay. This early focus on this wave type provides valuable preparation for ewing, known for his exceptional rail work – often considered among the best on tour.
While many CT athletes are using the hiatus for rest and recovery - including Jack Robinson, who underwent knee surgery 2.5 years after sustaining the injury – Ewing is actively honing his skills. Bells Beach, a notoriously challenging wave demanding both power and precise timing, is proving to be the ideal training ground. The wave isn’t simply about “grip-it-and-rip-it” surfing; patience and wave selection are crucial.
Ewing appears to possess both qualities in abundance, as evidenced by recent footage of his powerful cutbacks at Bells. The 2026 season will kick off at Bells Beach in April, following a shift that moves the Pipeline event to the season finale in December.
