Title: O.J. Simpson Estate Pays $58 Million in Goldman Lawsuit

by Emma Walker – News Editor

Las Vegas – The estate of O.J. Simpson has agreed to a $58 ‍million claim filed by the father⁢ of ron ⁢Goldman, bringing a decades-long financial pursuit to a potential close following Simpson’s‍ death in April.

The agreement stems from a 1997 civil trial ⁣where Simpson was found liable for the wrongful deaths⁤ of Goldman and Simpson’s ⁢ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson. Though acquitted‍ in the criminal trial, the civil jury ordered simpson to pay the⁤ families $33.5 million. Accumulated interest over the years has brought⁣ the‌ total to $58 million.

Fred Goldman, ⁣Ron Goldman’s ⁢father, has persistently sought financial restitution from⁤ Simpson, arguing that⁢ the former football star never willingly paid any portion of the original judgment. While the estate has accepted the ⁤$58‌ million claim as valid, attorney Michaelle Rafferty ‍clarified, “it does not constitute payment.”

Malcolm LaVergne, the estate’s executor, stated the payment will be voluntary, adding,”It won’t be ‍$58 million plus interest, but it will be a voluntary payment. That’s the point.” LaVergne accepted the $58 million ⁣claim, as ⁢documented in a court filing Friday in Clark ⁣County,‌ Nevada, but rejected a higher figure of $117 million that had been sought.

Accepting the claim ‌is intended to avoid protracted litigation. The next court hearing regarding⁤ the estate is scheduled ⁣for january, according to ⁢ CLASS.

O.J. Simpson died on April 10,2024,at the⁣ age of 76,after a battle with prostate cancer that metastasized to his bones.
