O.J. Simpson Estate to settle Decades-Old Wrongful Death Judgment with Fred Goldman
LAS VEGAS – The estate of O.J. Simpson has formally acknowledged a creditor claim from Fred Goldman for $57,997,858.12, possibly bringing an end to a legal battle spanning three decades following the 1994 murders of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson.
Court documents filed November 14,2024,in Clark County District Court reveal the estate’s approval of Goldman’s claim, which includes judgment interest accruing at Nevada statutory rates since February 3,2021. The claim stems from a 1997 civil trial verdict.
Goldman initially filed a claim in July 2024 for $117,041,675.27 seeking full resolution of the original judgment. The underlying civil lawsuit was brought by Goldman after his son,Ron,was killed alongside Nicole Brown Simpson at her Los Angeles home on June 12,1994. O.J. Simpson was acquitted in the criminal trial but found liable in the subsequent civil case.
Malcolm LaVergne, executor of Simpson’s estate, stated in court filings that the size of Goldman’s claim necessitates the estate be handled as a liquidation estate. The original judgment against Simpson was entered on March 10, 1997, in Los Angeles County Superior Court and was renewed in 2006, 2015, and 2022 before being transferred to Nevada in 2021.
LaVergne indicated the estate will collaborate with Goldman to finalize an accurate calculation of accumulated interest.
O.J. Simpson died in Las Vegas at the age of 76 in 2024.
