Kelsea Ballerini Addresses Speculation Her New Song References Chase Stokes‘ Ex,Madelyn Cline
Kelsea Ballerini is setting the record straight about the inspiration behind her latest single,”Stick Season,” amid fan theories suggesting it’s about her boyfriend,Chase Stokes’ former relationship with Outer Banks costar Madelyn Cline. The singer addressed the speculation during a recent interview, clarifying the song’s origins and her perspective on Stokes’ continued professional connection with Cline.
The discourse ignited after listeners noted lyrical parallels and timing coinciding with Stokes and Cline’s recent work together on the set of the popular Netflix series. Ballerini’s comments come as she and Stokes navigate the public eye following a brief split earlier in 2023 and their subsequent reconciliation, adding another layer to the ongoing conversation surrounding their relationship dynamics.
During a Wednesday, November 29, appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, host Alex Cooper questioned Ballerini, 30, about weather she felt “threatened” by Stokes, 31, and Cline, 25, working together. Ballerini responded positively, describing Cline as “lovely” and praising the professional relationship between her and Stokes.
“I think people read into things that aren’t there,” Ballerini explained, according to Us Weekly. “They’re really good friends, and they work together, and I respect that. I think it’s awesome.”
The singer’s comments follow a source revealing to Us Weekly earlier in November that Ballerini and Stokes “never really stopped being in touch” after their initial breakup. “They really picked up where they left off. Kelsea wanted to give it another chance and missed Chase a lot,” the insider shared.
The couple reportedly “worked through some of their ‘issues'” and are optimistic about their future. Another source told Us Weekly that Stokes “always felt there was something between them and believed they just needed time to cool off and figure things out.”
Ballerini and stokes rekindled their relationship in November after briefly separating earlier this year. Ballerini’s new album, Mount Pleasant, was released November 3rd.
