Flyers Acquire Maxence Guenette from Ottawa in Exchange for Dennis Gilbert

PHILADELPHIA,PA - The Philadelphia Flyers announced today the acquisition of restricted free agent defenseman Maxence Guenette from the Ottawa Senators. In return, the flyers have traded defenseman Dennis Gilbert to the Senators, as confirmed by Flyers General Manager Daniel Briere. guenette has agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with Philadelphia.
Guenette Brings Offensive Upside from Belleville
Guenette, 24, born April 28, 2001, was originally selected by the Senators in the seventh round (187th overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft.The 6-foot-2, 210-pound defenseman spent the 2024-25 season with the Belleville Senators of the American Hockey league, where he served as an alternate captain. He registered 23 points (9 goals, 14 assists) in 58 games and led Belleville defensemen with a plus-13 rating.
Over the past four seasons (2021-25), Guenette has been a consistent presence in the AHL with belleville. He established career highs in games played (72), assists (35), and points (40) during the 2022-23 season.In total, he has accumulated 116 points (27 goals, 89 assists) across 236 career AHL games, leading team defensemen in scoring in both the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.
Guenette made his NHL debut with Ottawa on April 13, 2023, and has appeared in eight NHL games over the 2023-24 seasons.
Gilbert Heads to Ottawa
In the corresponding move, Dennis Gilbert joins the Ottawa Senators organization. Gilbert was initially drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the third round (91st overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft.The defenseman has recorded 58 points (15 goals, 43 assists) in 194 AHL games across six seasons with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Calgary Wranglers, Colorado Eagles, and Rockford IceHogs. He has also played in 111 NHL games for Ottawa, Buffalo, Calgary, Colorado, and Chicago.
This trade provides the Flyers with a promising young defenseman in Guenette, while Gilbert gains a new opportunity in Ottawa.
