Flyers Acquire Maxence Guenette: Trade Details and Contract News

Flyers Acquire Maxence Guenette from Ottawa in Exchange for Dennis Gilbert

PHILADELPHIA,PA ⁢- The Philadelphia Flyers announced today the acquisition of restricted free agent ⁤defenseman Maxence Guenette from the⁢ Ottawa Senators. In ‌return, the flyers have traded defenseman Dennis Gilbert ‍to the ⁣Senators, as ‍confirmed by‍ Flyers General Manager Daniel ‌Briere. guenette‍ has agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with Philadelphia.

Guenette Brings Offensive Upside from Belleville

Guenette, 24, born ‌April 28, 2001, was originally selected by the Senators ⁣in the seventh round⁣ (187th overall) of the ‌2019 ⁣NHL Draft.The⁣ 6-foot-2, 210-pound defenseman spent the 2024-25 season with ‍the Belleville Senators of the American Hockey league, where he ‍served as an alternate captain. ​ He registered 23 points (9 ​goals, 14 assists) in 58 games and led Belleville defensemen ⁤with a plus-13 rating.

Over the past four seasons ‌(2021-25), Guenette has been a consistent presence in the AHL with belleville. He established career highs in games played (72), assists (35), and points (40) ⁣during the 2022-23 season.In total,⁤ he has‌ accumulated 116 points (27 goals, 89‍ assists) across 236 career AHL games, leading​ team​ defensemen in scoring in ⁣both the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.

Guenette made his NHL ⁢debut with Ottawa on April⁣ 13, 2023, and has⁣ appeared in eight NHL games over‍ the 2023-24 seasons.

Gilbert ​Heads‍ to Ottawa

In‌ the corresponding move, Dennis Gilbert joins the Ottawa Senators organization. Gilbert was initially drafted by ⁤the Chicago Blackhawks in the⁣ third round (91st overall)⁢ of ‌the 2015 ​NHL Draft.The defenseman has ⁤recorded‌ 58 points (15 goals, 43 assists) in 194 AHL⁣ games⁢ across six seasons with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Calgary ⁣Wranglers, Colorado Eagles, ⁤and Rockford IceHogs. He has also played in 111 NHL games⁣ for Ottawa, Buffalo, Calgary, Colorado, and Chicago.

This trade provides the Flyers with a promising young defenseman in Guenette, while Gilbert gains a new opportunity in Ottawa.
