Miami‘s largest annual philanthropic event, Give Miami Day, launched Thursday with early donations pouring in and a kickoff 5K run, aiming to amplify support for hundreds of local nonprofits.
The 24-hour giving challenge, now in its 14th year, seeks to raise millions for organizations serving Miami-Dade County. Last year’s event generated over $26.5 million from more than 33,000 donors, and organizers hope to surpass that figure in 2023. Give Miami Day is a critical fundraising opportunity for nonprofits of all sizes, providing vital resources for programs ranging from arts and culture to education and human services.
The Community Foundation of Miami, which spearheads Give Miami Day, reported early donations began arriving at midnight. The day’s activities included a 5K run/walk at LoanDepot Park, drawing participants eager to support the cause. “Give Miami Day is more than just a fundraising event; it’s a demonstration of our community’s collective power to create positive change,” said Rebecca Bradley, Vice President of Marketing and Communications at the Community Foundation of Miami.
Participating organizations are leveraging social media and email campaigns to encourage donations. A matching gift pool, bolstered by sponsors, will amplify contributions throughout the day.Individuals can donate to any participating nonprofit through the Give Miami Day website, with a minimum donation of $25.Refresh Miami, an autonomous nonprofit news institution serving Coconut Grove and Miami through public service journalism, is also participating, seeking support to continue its coverage of the local tech ecosystem.
