UMass Hockey Loses 4-0 to Boston College in Shutout Game

AMHERST, ‌Mass. – No. 12/13 University of Massachusetts ⁤hockey suffered ⁢a 4-0 defeat to No. 18/16 Boston College Saturday night at⁤ the Mullins⁤ Centre. the loss drops ​the Minutemen to 7-6-0 overall ⁤and 1-4-0⁢ in Hockey East play, while the Eagles improve to 6-4-1 and 4-2-0⁤ in conference action.

UMass head coach Greg Carvel noted, “That ⁣was the kind of effort‍ I was hoping for from⁣ our team tonight after last⁤ night. I thought we played a solid game. It was a game of which team was going⁣ to get‍ a bounce or deflection.We had some chances‌ early in the game. It​ would have been nice to score early and maybe ‍it takes‍ the game on a different course, ‌but it was tight checking. Both teams just dumping and trying to earn​ it back. They get a ​couple pucks to the net with some deflections and that was a difference in ​the game,‌ but I was happy with our group tonight.”

Boston College broke the scoreless tie with 14:28 elapsed in the second period. Will Vote and luka ⁤Radivojevic assisted on⁢ a goal by Paul Davey,whose shot from the right wing deflected off a player in front and ⁣into the net.

The Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 at⁣ 6:59 of the third period. Jake Sondreal scored after receiving passes from Drew Fortescue​ and Ryan conmy. Sondreal added another ⁤goal at the 11:41 mark, tapping in a rebound following a wrap-around attempt by Dean Letourneau, with Ryan Conmy earning a ⁣secondary assist.

Ryan Conmy completed the scoring with an empty-net goal from Drew Fortescue at 15:16.

Boston College outshot UMass‍ 35-32. ⁤The Minutemen went 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Eagles did⁤ not have any ⁣power play opportunities. ⁣

UMass goaltender ⁤Jackson Irving made 31 saves, while Louka Cloutier ⁤recorded a 32-save shutout for Boston College.
