Carrefour Franchisees in Toulouse Voice Concerns Over Brand Saturation
toulouse, France – Carrefour franchisees in the Toulouse area are expressing frustration and alleging “unfair competition” as the retail group continues to open new stores in close proximity to existing locations. The growing density of Carrefour outlets is raising concerns about market share erosion and the long-term viability of independently operated franchises.
One franchisee, Jonathan Potier, reported a new Carrefour installation just three kilometers from his store in a neighboring village. while he hasn’t yet seen a decline in turnover, Potier fears the increased competition will inevitably impact his business. “They sell the same thing as me, it’s not normal,” he stated, characterizing the situation as “a low blow” from the group. The dispute highlights a broader tension between Carrefour’s expansion strategy and the interests of its franchisees, who invest meaningful capital and rely on exclusive territories for profitability.
Potier, now the representative for the southwest region of the Carrefour Franchise Association (AFC), has been working to mitigate the impact through collective bargaining. the AFC successfully negotiated a partnership with a new supplier, resulting in more competitive pricing for franchisees while remaining compliant with existing contracts. “We were able to implement a reduction in all our prices on October 15, 2025,” Potier emphasized.
the franchisees are steadfast to defend their rights and the brand’s image. “We will fight… for the benefit of all customers,” Potier declared.
Carrefour group has not yet responded to a request for comment from Toulouse News.
