Canadiens Lose Newhook to Ankle Fracture,Guhle to Muscle Injury
MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens announced Friday that forward Alex Newhook underwent successful surgery to repair a fractured ankle and is expected to be sidelined for approximately four months. Defenseman kaiden Guhle also underwent surgery Thursday to address a partially torn adductor muscle, with an anticipated recovery time of eight to ten weeks.
Newhook sustained the injury during Thursday’s game against the Dallas Stars, tripping into the end boards while pursuing the puck in the second period.He was instantly assisted off the ice and underwent the procedure Friday.The 24-year-old Newhook, acquired via trade from the Colorado Avalanche prior to the 2023-24 season, has recorded 12 points (six goals, six assists) in 17 games this season. The Canadiens have recalled center Jared Davidson from the Laval Rocket to fill Newhook’s roster spot.
Guhle,23,had been out of the lineup since Oct. 16 with a lower-body injury. In five games played this season, he registered two points and averaged just over 19 minutes of ice time.
Despite the injuries, Montreal currently leads the Atlantic Division, though the team has lost four of its last five games. They are scheduled to face the Boston Bruins on Saturday at the Bell centre.
