Alain Souchon Prioritizes Values Over Wealth, Doesn’t Expect to Leave a financial Legacy to His Sons
Paris, France – Veteran French singer-songwriter Alain Souchon revealed in a November 14, 2025, interview on RTL that he doesn’t prioritize leaving a substantial financial inheritance to his sons, Pierre and Charles Souchon, both of whom also pursue music careers under the name Ours. Souchon, a celebrated figure in French music, emphasized the importance of lived experience and personal inspiration as the true legacy he hopes to impart.
Speaking with journalist Marc-Olivier Fogiel,Souchon responded to a question about his hopes for his children by stating,”I’m not so much for inheritances.” He explained that his sons were more profoundly shaped by observing his life and work ethic over the years. “You know, when you’re a kid, you kind of watch how your parents live and all that. And that inspires you. They’ve seen me act like that for years. And then they had ideas for writing songs, and so they do that. I have nothing to impose,” Souchon said.
One of Souchon’s sons echoed this sentiment, adding that their father “never really imposed anything on us. He never told us, do this job or don’t do it. Either study or don’t. As he didn’t have very long studies. He didn’t feel justified in giving us a real lesson on this. So that’s what we have to do.” Souchon further underscored the value of education, stating, “Of course. And studying, there’s nothing better.“
The conversation also touched on Souchon’s broader concerns about the state of the world, expressing fear over rising global conflicts and “hatreds.” He remarked, “We are a little afraid that war will come, that people kill each other. As men are a little crazy.” Souchon also expressed confidence that French voters ”are not stupid enough” to elect a candidate from the national Rally in the 2027 presidential election.
